Snowed In Beanie – Free Crochet Pattern

I think that bulky yarn is vastly under-rated. Not only is it super squishy, but it helps projects go so much more quickly! That is definitely the case with the Snowed In Beanie. This pattern works up so fast, and has a unique puff texture that makes it look far more complex than it is.

I created this pattern using WeCrochet’s Brava Bulky yarn, which is a really affordable bulky weight yarn. You only need one skein of Brava to make this hat! This hat is worked in the round from the top down.

Snowed In Beanie

ABBREVIATIONS

st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
DC = double crochet
PUFF = puff stitch
SC = single crochet

SPECIAL STITCHES

Puff Stitch = Yarn over, pick up a loop in designated st. Repeat an additional 2 times. Yarn over. Draw through all 7 loops on hook.

NOTES

• Chain 1 or 2 at the beginning of a round does NOT count as a stitch (unless otherwise specified).
• Approximate circumference for each size is the measurement that your hat should comfortably stretch to (the actual measurement of your hat may be shorter).

PATTERN

Size: Adult
Approx. circumference: 23 inches / Approx. length: 9 inches

R1: Using a magic ring, ch 2. 10 DC. Join with a sl st to beginning. (10 sts)

R2: Ch 2. 2 DC in each st around. Join with a sl st to beginning. (20 sts)

R3: Ch 2. 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next st. Repeat around. Join with a sl st to beginning. (30 sts)

R4: Ch 2. 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in each of the next 2 sts. Repeat around. Join with a sl st to beginning. (40 sts)

R5: Ch 2. 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in each of the next 3 sts. Repeat around. Join with a sl st to beginning. (50 sts)

R6: Ch 2. 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in each of the next 4 sts. Repeat around. Join with a sl st to beginning. (60 sts)

R7: Ch 1. 1 SC in same st. Ch 3, PUFF in next st, ch 1, skip next 2 sts. *SC in next st, ch 3, PUFF in next st, ch 1, skip next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to beginning. (15 PUFF sts)

R8-12: Turn. Sl st into the top of PUFF st. Ch 1. *Working in the next ch 3 space, SC, ch 3, PUFF, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to beginning. (15 PUFF sts)

R13: Turn. Ch 1. SC in each st around, working 1 SC in each SC, 1 SC in each PUFF, and 2 SC in each ch 3 sp. Join with a sl st to beginning. (60 sts)

R14-18: Ch 1. SC in each st around. Join with a sl st to beginning. (60 sts)

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

FINISHING

Attach pom pom to top of hat, if desired.
