I originally designed this pattern in Brava Worsted yarn, but recently updated it to Parfait Chunky. The change in yarn makes this project bigger, and softer!

Stitch Abbreviations

st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
SC = single crochet
SC2tog = single crochet 2 stitches together (invisible decrease is recommended)
FSC = foundation single crochet

Special Stitches

SC2tog (using invisible decrease method): Insert hook into front loop of the first stitch. Insert hook into front loop of second stitch. Yarn over. Draw through the first two loops on hook. Yarn over. Draw through both loops on hook.

Notes

  • Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
  • All pieces, with the exception of the legs and wings, are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
  • Invisible decreases are recommended. Please see “Special Stitches”.
  • Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.
  • Head and body require stuffing. Stuff each piece as you work to ensure the piece is completely filled. Do not add stuffing to the ears.
  • Wings: chain 1 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a stitch (unless otherwise specified).

  1. Hi I have the same question as above with the wings, I’ve followed to pattern exactly 4 times and the wings only have shape on one side, the other is blocked off straight. It only says to slip stitch on one side following the pattern, am I doing something wrong??

    1. Hello! It sounds like you are SC all the way across? So you do your slip stitches, and then when you are doing the SC stitches, you aren’t doing them all the way to the end, you are only doing 21 sts, which will leave 2 sts at the end unworked. That is how the indents in the shaping come to be. Feel free to email me with any additional questions!

  2. Quick question – for the wings, do we need to slip stitch in each side? The picture shows what looks like slip stitch but the pattern doesn’t say to do that. Unless I’m reading it wrong. Help!

    1. Hello! Are you referring to the feet? If so, no you are just slip stitching along the first side. The remaining loops of the chain is likely what you are seeing that looks like a slip stitch as well. Hope that helps!
